Recently, I read an article on the AMTA Florida Journal about goal setting. In that article, one thing jumped out of the page. MAKIA! MAKIA is one of principle in Hawaiian Shamanism. Energy flows where attention goes. The article talks also about the same wisdom or Law of Attraction. No matter what religion you believe or what philosophy you follow the truth is universal. In this recessionary economical hardship, we are all experiencing difficulties at some level and feeling stressed out. What can we do about that? Aforementioned Seven Hawaiian Shamanic Principles came to mind. These Principles are great ways that we can cope with this stressful time. Let’s look at these Seven Hawaiian Shamanic Principles and see how we can apply them in our daily lives.
IKE. Be aware.
KALA. Be free.
MAKIA. Be focused.
MANAWA. Be here.
ALOHA. Be loved.
MANA. Be strong.
PONO. Be healed.
Principle of IKE tells us that the world is what you think it is. What does that mean? You can decide in our mind what kind of world it is and the world becomes so? That is what it sounds like from it. Our mind is exponentially strong and powerful. It is actually very powerful. So, I would imagine most of us, just like I do, our world is to be pleasant, comfortable and graceful, and of course less stressful. I know that it is difficult to focus on good things and be positive where things are not going well and the tendency is in that situation to be negative.
Principle of MAKIA is about focus. It says to be focused. Our focus either negatively or positively draws energies to on where or what we put our attention. Energy flows where attention goes. Apparently, we want to focus on this very moment right now what things are happening. In our current economical difficulties, that is making us feel stressed and worried. Don’t think about what if’s in the past nor in the future because this moment makes the difference. “Be here,” that is what Principle of MANAWA says. Now is the moment of power. Do you recall that we just talked about being positive? How can we be here and be positive in this stressful time (not trying to think it is stressful as IKE says world is what you think it is). As you can see, it requires strong will power to stay being here and being positive. We want to be mentally strong.
Our mind shapes our world, yeah? That is what Principle of MANA is about, be strong. All power comes from within it says. Talking about being strong and having strong positive will power sounds isolated and alone a bit, doesn’t it? Well, it really does not need to be. We all want to feel loved. How do we get loved? We ought to love first not because someone loves us. It is the Law of Attraction. Energy flows where attention goes. Positive people attract other positive people. Loving people are attracted to other loving people. Does this sound like talking about being loved? Principle of ALOHA is about that. ALOHA is unconditional, however. To love is to be happy with. We are not talking about just the romantic kind of love, either. When we are in love and loved, we are happy and most likely not stressed. We feel grateful and free. What is freedom, then? We are not abiding by any restrictions or limits. Right, there are no limits. Umm, does that sound good to you? It surely does to me.
Finally but not the least, Principle of PONO tells us to be healed. How? That is a good question, right? As a matter of fact, it is not all that mysterious concept. In Hawaiian Shamanism, we all are considered to be healer and have healing power within. Some people are aware of that better than the others. If we can acknowledge or recognize issues and apply all these principles in every moment in our lives, we will be less stressed and free from negativities. Yes, it doesn’t happen overnight. It might work right away sometimes and might not on some other times. Yes, it takes practices until our mind is trained to think that way. Remember, our mind is powerful, world is what we think it is, energy flows where attention goes and there are no limits. Let us be aware, strong, focused, loved, free and healed, right now!
